This page is a supplement to the Ti3 armoured locomotive page.

The Ti3-4 armoured locomotive in German Panzerzug 22.  These are the photos of Polish Ti3-4 armoured locomotive, after it was captured by Germans and employed in the Panzerzug 22 armoured train. They were taken in France, between 1941-42, when Panzerzug 22 was used in occupation service there. The Ti3-4 was used in the PZ 22 until 1942.

The Ti3-4 locomotive itself comes from Polish Nr. 54 ("Grozny") armoured train. The locomotive was modified by Germans - it got extensive extra armour screens, which completely changed the locomotive silhouette. In German service it was given the number BR 54 651 (or 54 5021 ?). As it's evident on the photo, the new owners retained Polish number plate on the driver's cab, though.

See also the PZ 22 armoured train gallery
(may be in construction).

Good overall view of the Ti3-4 of the PZ 22 train. Behind the locomotive there is a former assault wagon from Polish Nr.52 ("Pi³sudczyk") train.

Note extra armour screens on the locomotive's top, added by Germans. The picture on the right shows clearly, that there was a space to walk in between the boiler and the armoured side. The door was probably added by Germans, too. It's possible, that there was a "corridor" to driver's cab and commander's turret.

The beautiful picture of Ti3 "flat" type command turret, looking towards the front. Note the extra armor screens, which were also enlarging the tender's capacity (note the coal loaded high). It seems, however, that in the original Polish locomotives the hatches were opening outwards (German modification? - compare with a photo on Ti3 page).
